For two months I've been searching for a 50mm on eBay for a decent price. I let go quite a couple of good deal on Mk II and f1.4 ( outbid in an auction that end up less than $200 for a brand new one! still regretting it!). Until today! Yes, I was able to get my dream lens for 75. I haven't try the f1.8 Mk II so I can't tell how poor-built it is, but the Mk1 is absolutely rock solid. The picture is very sharp, the lens is fast and dead-on focus. I like the ring thing that the Mk II seems to be lack of. If the Mk II is as light and cheaply-feeling as my kit lens EF-S 18-55, then the feeling of the Mk1 in the hand is totally different. When the barrell is fully retracted, it's the same length and weight as the 28mm prime. Very nice. I'm an amateur, but I do know the different between quality, so if you're lucky like me and are able to grasp a mk1, don't hesitate. Or just go ahead and get the f1.4 or the macro 2.5. Another thing I notice that many of Canon lenses were made better in their previous version. I have the 28-80 USM mk1 with metal mount, old 100-300 USM... found cheap and in excellent condition on auction site (you know where!). The build quality, material... are all better. Even the plastic to contruct the barrel feels better too!

I had been waiting to upgrade my camera body from the original digital rebel. I had been investing money into lenses. I wanted better indoor performance than my Canon 17-55IS could provide on my 300D, so after looking at how low noise the 450D provided, I got one and have not regretted it.

Few minutes ago- just got my new Canon Powershot SD 990 IS and as you are taking Camera out of the shipping box- you can hear slight rattle inside camera- loose lens, loose protective cover or loose shutter rattle ???

If you shake the camera gently, you can hear a rattle sound inside.

Very disappointing with Canon- as my recent Canon Video GL2 ZOOM stop working (cable inside broke- cut off -presumably by tape door cover and Canon Image Stabilizer Lense EF-S 17-85 for EOS20 stop working also - with Error 99.

The camera might be fine, but the included 32 megabyte memory card is an absolute insult to all of their customers. 8 gigabyte memory cards are currently selling for $10 on Amazon, why is Canon insulting their customers with a 32 megabyte memory card? Canon should have included at least a 1 gigabyte memory card.
