Contrary to what it says both here at Amazon, as well as the Canon site itself, this camera does NOT contain the purple “My Camera” tab that nearly all Canon cameras do!! So, no, you cannot customize your startup screen or your shutter sounds OR ANYTHING. Someone pushed this camera out the door of development at Canon and crippled it.
VERY VERY SAD!! Its such a doggone cute camera, its very depressing!
I wanted to create a cute Hello Kitty-like startup screen for my wife, but everyone should ALSO be aware of this fact that is true for ALL canon cameras: you cannot save an altered image or self created image back to the camera, software will not allow you to, nor will saving it directly to a memory card! The camera will NOT read it.
Also if you were thinking of creating your own custom sounds for the camera (or ANY canon camera) forget it, their software won’t allow you to load it to the camera.
One way Canon COULD solve the missing purple tab issue with the E1, would be to simply provide a firmware update. But when I called tech support the gentleman told me that he had never received a tech support call on this camera, as it’s a limited run. Unlikely we’ll get an update like I have on my other Canon cameras.
So, if you want a crippled Canon camera (and what I mean by this is (if you want an ORDINARY camera) then get this one, but if you want to customize it, well, we’re out of luck until Canon fixes it to work with their software.
I give you the list below to qualify my comments as an avid Canon customer.

I bought this camera for Election Night 2008. I ordered it from AMAZON.
I can take good out side shots. I use high end rechargables. Today, I tested my batteries – all in the good range – and I was only able to get in less than a dozen shots before it said – change batteries. That is the final straw.
I have tried using many settings. I have spoken to CANON. I said that I wanted to get a new camera – I would have never spent this kind of money if I had known that it requires “AA”s. This camera replaced another CANON that I was happy with, but I dropped while open. To repair that camera lens area, the minimum charge was $175.00. So I bought a new camera.
I will never buy a camera again that takes AA’s. And this is not an easy to use camera unless you put it on the simple function, and then you can’t make any minor tweaks.
If you want an easy point and shoot – don’t get this one. It has failed me at so many important events that I can’t even tell you.

Ack, I hate this camera!
It is too big and bulky and not really pocket-size. If I wanted a camera this big it should be a lot better quality. My old camera is MUCH smaller.
The lag time between photos reminds me of distant decades of the 20th century.
The photos aren’t so hot, which is a major bummer since I got the camera to take great pix of my granddaughter’s birthday party.
In one evening I burned through four batteries and I didn’t even take that many pix since the camera was a pain to use.
I’m going to return it since I personally consider the thing a pink nightmare.

I was really excited to get this camera, but that excitement has faded. The booklet it comes with only has the bare necessities in it. You have to print out the 83-page manual that is on the CD. After pouring over the manual and camera, I am still perplexed as to how to use all the functions. And some functions, such as customization, are not included in the manual. It is a really difficult camera to learn how to use. It should not be so. It has a lot of functions that I don’t think are necessary. And when it takes so long to figure out how to use it, my frustration level increases. There are buttons on the camera, but then there are functions on the screen that I need to learn how to use and what they are. It’s just really mind boggling.
It feels like a flimsy camera. I do not like the way the battery and memory card door closes–like it could easily break.
I’m going back to my good ole Kodak. This camera is not worth the energy and headache.

Canon Powershot E1 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Pink)
I am very disappointed in this camera. I bought it for my daughter for Christmas thinking it would last her several years. It has been 2 1/2 months, She has used it only a few times and the thing is already broken. The lense protector won’t close and the zoom lense does not retract all the way. It does not take very good pictures either. What a disappointment. I thought I’d be safe with a canon but won’t make that mistake again.
