I have a A590 IS… It’s basically this camera, with all the content and manual controkls, but not that powerfull (for example, it is 8 megapixels, but this camera has 10 megapixels).
I use this camera very little, most for events. I had taken photos inside an school auditorium and the photo are to dark, I try flash on or off. My sister has a graduation this month & I want to take clear photos. The auditorium has dim light,
What setting should I use indoor to get that clear photos? Should I use flash?
Which brand of battery are best for this camera? Cause I purchase the accessory power 2700mah NiMH rechargeable battery, after recharging it does not last long.
Would you please be able to tell me how to get to or use the Macro feature…I can’t figure it out . Thanks:)

Gordon-
I just found your videos late last week and I LOVE them (and the website)! Thank you for all of the camera info!
I have a question about this camera specifically… do you think a one-arm man would be able to handle/use this camera as easily as the smaller Canon’s?
My second questions is in regards to the screen… is anyone making cameras this small or smaller withtilt and swivel screens? I know the SX20IS does, but that’s way too big to use easily. Thanks again!
This camera is the absolute best A-Series model that Canon has yet produced. ‘Nuff said.
this camera is really nice! i use it to film all my videos
The A640 kicks even newer camera’s ass
(my mom replaced it with a cheap olympus and the a640 takes way better shots)The a640 is now officially mine since I used it more than she does
I use it like an old school SLR and leave it on manual were you have to choose the correct shutter speed and aperture control since the auto modes just suck ass
The video quality ‘aint bad when you have it at 640×480 and 30fps… alot better than a cellphone!
I have That Camera!!!!! But the video quality isnt very good.
is this camera taking 3 seconds to capture a photo like the a650? or is it faster?
I don’t know, sorry. You’ll have to contact your nearest Canon service centre and ask them about it…
I’ve been using this camera for about two years now, and only recently I’ve noticed a ringing noise in the audio of my recordings.
Do you know if there is a way of canceling out this ringing?
I’ve been using one of these for a couple of years now. It’s great for a compact camera.
Yes it does! Check out the screen and menus page in the Features section of my A640 review at cameralabs . com – there’s a link to the right of the video window above.
i’ve been iterested in this model for a while and i did some reading up on it but no one can tell me if it has color swap and/or color accent. i have an A610 and i want an upgrade but im hooked on my color swap
I haven’t reviewed any sub-$200 cameras – sorry! But the ones I recommend are in the Best Buys section at cameralabs . com.
Can you please send me a link of a good digatal camera that is under 200 dollars amercian money) i am looking for a good quality one so i can make video and upload them to utube,
Yes you can – Canon NZ is still listing it, but as limited availability – it is over a year old now. You’ll be pleased to hear there is an underwater housing for it…
Am I able to purchase this camera in New Zealand? I am also in need of a camera that can take pictures underwater I have some fantastic friends that are able to bear the sub zero temps of the lakes around here. I only with they would share the bloody wetsuits!
Don’t use a normal cloth! Go to a photography store and ask them to recommend a wipe or a special cloth for cleaning the lens. And wipe it gently! Feel free to ask on the Cameralabs forums too…
