03/04/2010 I got kitty hairs in my kitty picture and video camera… And unfortunately, you can’t just get to the lens from outside… You have to take the whole camera apart. So this is exactly what I did. It’s a blast, but it takes a long time, and there’s so much that can go wrong…

This time lapse video of a cloudy sky consists of 2400+ images taken over the course of 8 hours, one image every 10 seconds, from 11:30AM to 7:30PM on Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Pennsylvania, USA with the camera setup on a tripod at a window on the second floor of my house. This is only my 4th time lapse ever, and my first attempt at an extended period such as this, so I am still learning. I used a Canon Powershot A590 loaded with CHDK using the “Ultra Intervalometer” script set as follows: Delay 1st shot 10 seconds, Interval 10 seconds and Endless=Yes. The camera was set to Program mode, Widescreen resolution and no exposure compensation. In hindsight I should have set it to at least a -1/3 stop to account for the sun as it moved across the sky as some images were somewhat overexposed. Images were saved to a 16GB Sandisk SDHC memory card.. Once the images were transferred to my PC I then used VirtualDub to open the first image of the sequence. I then applied the following: 10 FPS, Resize video filter set to an Absolute pixel height of 1440; Levels video filter to tone down the brightness down and correct overexposed images and finally video Compression using Xvid codec with Quality set to 1.
